București, SANA-The first flight of the Romanian company “Dan Air” took off on Sunday, from the capital, Bucharest, to Damascus, making it the first direct flight from Europe to Syria after a 14-year hiatus.
“This moment goes beyond the issue of aviation, as it represents an effective step in reconnecting Syrian families, supporting businesses, and consolidating the deep historical ties between Romania and Syria”, the airline posted on its Facebook page.
A few days ago, the airline said it would resume its flights to Syria and would depart from several cities, including Bucharest in Romania, Frankfurt and Berlin in Germany, and the Swedish capital, Stockholm.
This step came after bilateral agreements between Romania and Syria and the license that the company obtained from the Romanian Ministry of Transport at the end of last March, which was approved by the Syrian government at the end of last April.
