France calls on international community to provide immediate support for Syria

New York, SANA-France called on the international community to provide immediate, multi-faceted support to Syria, helping to revive the Syrian economy and achieve regional integration and stability.

During a UN Security Council session on Syria held on Wednesday, France’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Jérôme Bonnafont, stated: “We are compelled to act to prevent the current unrest in the Middle East from disrupting Syria’s transitional process, and to offer the country a chance to become a hub of regional stability.”

He emphasized the urgent need for the international community to support Syria across several tracks, including addressing the immediate humanitarian crisis, supporting Syria’s political and economic reintegration into the international community, and securing necessary funding.

Bonnafont’s remarks, published on the French UN mission’s website, also highlighted Paris’s role in contributing financial aid, mobilizing bilateral, regional, and international donors, and encouraging private sector engagement to stimulate Syria’s economy.

Meanwhile, Turkey’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ahmet Yıldız, expressed optimism during the session, saying that developments in Syria offer hope for the region and the world. He stressed the importance of preventing the spread of unrest from the Middle East into Syria.
