Turkish Interior Ministry: Number of Syrians under temporary protection in Turkey declines to 2.7 Million

Ankara, SANA-Official Turkish data indicates that the number of Syrians under temporary protection in Turkey has decreased by 25.8% over the past five years, reaching approximately 2,699,000 individuals.

According to statistics from the Presidency of Migration Management under the Turkish Ministry of Interior, the number of registered Syrians under temporary protection fell from 3,641,370 at the end of 2020 to 2,699,787 as of June 5.

Regarding distribution by province, Istanbul hosts the highest number of Syrians under temporary protection, with 469,142 individuals, followed by Gaziantep with 377,017, and Şanlıurfa with 235,812. In terms of the highest percentage of Syrians relative to the total population of a city, Kilis records the highest rate at 26.95%.

Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yilmaz announced on Friday that more than 273,000 Syrian refugees have voluntarily returned to their homeland from Turkey in the past six months. He anticipates that this number will increase over the summer, coinciding with the end of the academic year and improving conditions in Syria.
